This fast-growing New Zealand native is prized for its wavy, glossy green leaves with a lemony scent when crushed, making it a sensory standout in any landscape.
Growing up to 10 metres tall in ideal conditions, Tarata forms a dense, upright tree or large shrub, perfect for hedging, screening, or shelterbelts. In spring, it produces clusters of small, pale yellow, honey-scented flowers that attract birds and pollinators, followed by decorative seed capsules.
Hardy and adaptable, it tolerates wind, drought, coastal conditions, and light frost, thriving in full sun to partial shade. A great choice for both rural and urban settings.
